Crowns and Bridges in Cheltenham
Our custom crowns and bridges are designed for both durability and aesthetics. Each of our restorations is carefully crafted to blend in with your smile while restoring its normal function. They can also be paired with dental implants if you plan on replacing one or several missing teeth.
About Dental Crowns
Crowns are covers or ‘caps’ that protect heavily worn, restored or decaying teeth. If your tooth has an aggressive cavity or crack, a large filling will not be able to withstand normal biting and chewing. Instead, we place a crown over the tooth to protect it from every angle. As an added advantage, crowns work well when veneers may not be appropriate, as they also enhance the appearance of the tooth that’s being treated.
Fixed Dental Bridges
Bridges use a pair of crowns to support a floating, artificial crown between them. Essentially, they act as a ‘bridge’ to span the gap caused by missing teeth. Either end of the bridge is set on top of a healthy tooth, which acts as a base to support the fixed restoration.
Dental bridges work best when only one or two teeth are missing and the ones on either side could benefit from a crown. They’re a popular alternative to partial bridges or when individuals do not qualify for a dental implant.
How Long Do They Last?
The better you care for your new restoration, the longer it will last. It’s important to brush and floss around crowns and bridges daily. If you’re prone to clenching or grinding your teeth (bruxism) we highly recommend sleeping in a protective nightguard to avoid fractures in the porcelain.
A properly maintained crown can easily last for 15 years or longer.
